I believe that true learning never comes easy. That is why I say the
learning is in the struggle. At some point for all of us just learning
2+2=4 was difficult, but now it is automatic. I try to help my students
understand that a little struggle is good. If we never pushed ourselves,
we'd never see what we can do.
However, I understand the struggle sometimes turns students off of learning.
To prevent this as much as I can, I try to keep my classroom a place of
action and humor. I joke with the kids when I can, and I'm serious when
they require it. They usually tell the difference pretty quickly.
My true misson, as with any English teacher, is for them all to leave better
readers and writers than how they entered my room. I aim to open new worlds
through literature and new outlets through writing.
