This week the students will be doing a lot with writing. We are really trying to get these guys geared up for next year and all of the writing they will be expected to do.

Language Arts

Working with the myth theme we have been studying, studens will create their own myth. This will take all of this week as students go through the writing process. They will also have one reading exercise.

Math

We will continue to work on fractions as we introduce the students to fractions on a number line. Please continue to work with your student at home.

We are moving on from Science and into Social Studies. The students will learn the basic structure of a community. We are going to be learning about local government. Expect some homework in this arena.

Don't forget there is an early release this Wednesday. Students will be dismissed at 12:45.

On Friday, we will be having our Valentine Party. You may go ahead and send in non-perishable items. The students will be making their banana splits, and looking at their valentines from their friends.

This week is action packed due to the three day weekend we just had. The students are learning the wording when telling time. Please continue to work with your child at home.

Don't forget the rock collection is due on Friday. I hope your child has been having a great time finding those rocks!

I have posted the lastest spelling list on the handout page. And, don't forget, if you need an additional copy of the project sheet it is also there for you.

January 11, 2010

The first full week back and we have been so busy already. I plan to continue posting the spelling words on the handout page. This week we are starting our genre of Fantasy/Fables in Language Arts and in writing we are reviewing the rules of capitalization.

In math, we finished our measurement unit, however please keep working with your child on this at home. This week we are taking a math benchmark and then learning about time.

In science we will work on recognizing different landforms. The students will be able to observe some presentations which should give them a good feel on this topic. ***Don't forget to be working on the rock project. If you have lost your copy of the form, I will be posting the file on the handout page. I will also be posting the rubric as soon as possible too.***

During the Winter Party we will have a class book exchange.  Please bring a
grade level appropriate, gender neutral, gently used book to exchange.  It
should be wrapped with your child's name on it.  Please send books by
Wednesday, December 16.

Holiday lunch is December 10th. Our lunch time is at 12:00. If you need any other class schedule please visit our school webpage as it is listed there.

We took our first spelling test with completing the words in cursive. This is a big step for you child, please congratulate him/her and continue to practice cursive at home.
