Round Rock ISD is very familiar to me, since I graduated from Westwood
HS when it was a relatively new school! My first teaching job actually
occured in Japan.
After graduating from Southwest Texas State University (SWTSU) with a
degree in Elementary Education, I student taught in RRISD and then answered
an ad to teach English in Japan. I lived in the country, three hours from
Tokyo. I definitely learned flexibility and a greater appreciation for
different cultures that year and a half that I lived in Japan.
When I returned to the US, I taught fifth grade for seven years at a
private school in Austin. I then received my Masters Degree in Education
from SWTSU. My class was the last graduating class from SWTSU before it
changed its named to Texas State University. The next four years were spent
teaching fourth grade at another school in our district. I began working at
Great Oaks in 2007. I am looking forward to my fourth year here at Great Oaks.
Having grown up in five different states and having traveled through most
of the fifty states, I have developed a love for teaching American History.
Walking the Freedom Trail in Boston, visiting the Statue of Liberty on Ellis
Island, hiking the Grand Canyon, touring Valley Forge and Gettysburg are
some of my favorite memories.
In the summer of 2008, I experienced Europe for the first time by
embarking on a mother/daughter trip to Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Standing
in front of Michelangelo's David was awe inspiring---to think that this great
work of art still inspires us yet today! Walking through the Colosseum felt
like taking a walk back in time. The fact that the architecture has
withstood the test of time are real life examples of the lifeskills of
cooperation, problem solving, responsibility, common sense and effort.
Gazing at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel made me appreciate everyone who
has been blessed with creativity. I definitely want to return to Europe in
the near future.
I enjoy skiing, traveling, exercising, hiking, scrapbooking, cooking,
baking, watching the "classic movies", and spending time with friends!
I hope your child will enjoy being in second grade as I anticipate having
a great year with your precious students!
