NAME:
Mrs. Thornton
SCHOOL:
Grisham Middle School
CLASS:
7th and 8th Grade Math
I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended
Texas A&M-University on a tennis scholarship and graduated with honors with
a B.S. in Kinesiology and a minor in mathematics.
Upon graduation, I accepted a coaching and teaching position
with Flour Bluff I.S.D. in Corpus Christi where I taught high school
geometry and served as the head junior high tennis coach for 2 years.
After marrying my husband, Matthew, we moved to Los Angeles, California
where I taught 7th Grade Pre-Algebra and coached tennis, cross
country, and track and field for Placerita Junior High School in Newhall,
California. While teaching, I also earned my Master of Arts Degree from
California State University Northridge in Secondary Mathematics Education,
again graduating with highest honors.
I am very excited to begin my 10th year of teaching as a member
of the Grisham Middle School staff and look forward to sharing my enthusiasm
for teaching with my new students.
I believe math is a valuable lifelong tool that is
important for all students. It is my goal to make math interesting, fun,
challenging, and rewarding.
In addition, I also hope to encourage my students to continue to build
on their strengths, improve on their weaknesses, and to be caring and
compassionate citizens in the community.
