Stephen F Austin’s Arrest and Return to Texas |
In 1833 Austin is arrested over a letter in which he criticizes the Mexican Government.
When he returns to TX in 1835 He is calling for Texans to fight for their rights “War is the only recourse” |

Battle of the Alamo |
William Travis, James Bowie, Davey Crockett and 189 defenders battled Santa Anna in order to give the delegates at Washington on the Brazos time to declare independence, wrote a constitution and raise an army.
All of the defenders died. |

Constitution of 1824 |
States’ Rights Constitution of Mexico that gave states more local control.
Santa Anna took away this constitution and became the dictator of Mexico. |

Battle of San Jacinto |
Battle at which Sam Houston and The Texas army surprise and defeat Santa Anna’s Mexican Army cornering them at the San Jacinto River.
Santa Anna is captured and Texas Gains its independence. |

Massacre at Goliad |
After Colonel Fannin surrendered his 400 men at the Battle of Coleto Creek, Santa Anna order they be marched out on the road and executed near Goliad. |

Battle of Gonzales |
Began because Texans refused to give up a cannon.
This battle showed that Texans would fight for their rights and independence.
