Class Procedures
Every class meeting will begin with the day's agenda and a warm-up exercise during which time attendance will be taken. There will be no talking as students copy the agenda and complete the warm-up exercise. After the warm-up has been completed we will go over it as a class and then the day's lesson will begin. At the end of class matters such as homework, returning papers, and getting and returning make-up work will be tended to.
Grading
Due to the challenges that each section presents, grading will be slightly different during each of the six weeks grading periods. For example a project may be a test grade. Students grades will be determined using the following formula:
Classwork/Homework 41% +
Tests1/Project1 27% +
Test 2, Project 2 27% +
Quiz/Writing Quizzes 5% =100%.
Attendance
There is a direct correlation between student attendance and academic success. Since most of what you will be learning will be through participation, it will be difficult to make up the work, and will most likely take twice the time to complete than if you had been in class. It is therefore recommended that students miss as few days as possible.
Homework
In accordance with RRISD and Hopewell's homework philosophies, I assign homework as an enhancement to what the students are learning in class. Homework will only be given as needed, so please check your child's agenda on a regular basis to see if they have homework. It is very important that students complete all homework assignments. The more students come to class
prepared the more fun and exciting our class work can be.
Late work
Homework is due the day after assigned unless otherwise specified. Late work is accepted up to three days after the due date with a penalty. On the first day late an assignment begins at a 70, the second day a 60 and the third day a 50. Every homework assignment contributes to the student's understanding of the subject matter, so it is very important that every assignment is completed. I will always be available to help all students after school.
Make-up work
Students who are absent are responsible to make up all missed assignments. You will be given twice the amount of time that you were absent to complete make-up work so that you will not fall behind on your other assignments. Feel free to see me after school for any tutoring or help that you may need in order to get caught up.
