Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to thank you for dropping in on my teacher web

should be kept at home as we have a class set available for use in the

daily agenda and homework in their classes.

I look forward to teaching your child World Cultures this 2011-12 school
year!

Syllabus for World Cultures:

Using the concept of the "PEGS" system(P=Political, E=Economic,
G=Geographical,S=Social), students will investigate the reasons for human
settlement in various regions, by focusing on the physical
characteristics of places, the geography, how people have
adapted to the environment, patterns of human behavior, and the
characteristics of culture. Students identify structures of limited and
unlimited governments and different patterns of economic systems.

completed we will begin the lesson. Please check your child's agenda
regularly as to what they are doing in class. Upkeep of the agenda book is a
student responsibility. We will be using the student's agenda for restroom
breaks as well, so they definitely need an agenda book ASAP!

Attendance:

There is a direct correlation between student attendance and academic
success. Since most of what will be learned will be through participation,
it is therefore recommended that students be on time, missing as few days as
possible and complete any work missed (see the school policy on attendance,
etc.)

Homework Policy:

World Cultures typically does not assign much weekly homework,
usually to read pages in the WC textbook that we are covering in class. Work
generally has been designed to be completed within the class period. However,
work that was not completed within the given time, may be assigned as
Homework at the teacher’s discretion. Students are always encouraged to
review and study notes taken within class to prepare for future discussions,
quizzes and tests.

Most notes, handouts, etc... should be neatly maintained in the student's
required (ISN) Interactive Student Notebook (spiral) and/or in their WC binder
behind a tab designated specifically for World Cultures. All World Cultures
students should have a Classwork/Homework section in their binder/folder.As a
rule, the ISN will need to stay at school as we will be using it in
class to compile papers, study from, etc... Other papers will be in the
student binder, which should be brought back daily with the student. Before
majors tests, a review sheet will be given over the material covered in order
to prepare the student for the assessment (they are strongly encouraged to
study from it!).

Late Work Policy:

The ability to meet deadlines and budget time wisely is an important
life skill. It is our expectation that work will be turned in by the due
date. One day late, will result in a loss of 25 points. On the second day,
another 25 points will be deducted. After that, teacher discretion will be the
rule.

Note: Students who are absent/ill are responsible to make up all missed
assignments. They will be given a reasonable amount of time to complete make-
up work so that they will not fall behind on their other assignments.
Students should feel free to see me in order to get caught up. If a student
has been out with an illness, they can take their test (if there is one at
that time) upon returning. They need to tell me if they need additional days
to study to take the test (usually the test is taken the day they get back,
or withinn 2 days (as well as for corrections/retests, class work,
etc......I'm flexible, so they need to let me know!!).

After School Tutoring: I will be available after school on most Tuesdays from
330-430 pm for tutoring if your child needs it. However, transportation home
must be provided by the parent for their child. School buses leave promptly
after school (usually by 345pm).
