My husband, Wade, and I have been married for 18 years and we live in
Queen City. We are the parents of three children, Megan (16), Autumn (12), and
Walker (10). Our children are students in Queen City I.S.D.
I graduated from Texas A&M University-Texarkana in December 2006 and
accepted my first teaching position here at J.K. Hileman Elementary. This
will be my 6th year of teaching and could not imagine anything else that I
would rather be doing. Being a teacher is so much more than just teaching. As
an educator, I want children to live up to their full potential by
establishing a secure and risk-free learning environment and embracing and
nurturing differences.
I believe that creating a safe and risk-free environment that fosters
the best learning for each child is essential. As a teacher, I will strive
to have an attitude of enthusiasm, acceptance, and encouragement at all
times. Building a relationship with my students by using my smile, humor,
praise, and concern will be a vital priority.
I am determined to make a conscious effort to be empathetic as well as
sympathetic. I will strive daily to be an excellent listener and communicator
when talking with my students and their families. I support and advise
parent/teacher collaboration. I will treat all my students with kindness,
dignity, and respect. I am fully aware of the unpredictability that children
often present, therefore I will appreciate and embrace every teachable
moment.
Most importantly, I will take charge of my classroom in a productive
way, where I will set clear, meaningful, and consistent expectations, accept
no excuses, and place no blame. I will not be afraid to laugh at myself
when I have made a mistake. New teachers frequently claim that a sense
of humor is the key to survival :)
