Why should I join PTA? What do I get out of it?

Number 1: By becoming a PTA member, you are becoming more involved in your
child's education. Studies show that children of involved parents do better
in school.

You also give yourself a voice and a vote on the way we conduct business. Let
yourself be heard! Share your ideas and opinions with us! We want to sponsor
events & fundraisers that both kids AND parents enjoy!

Plus, PTA members receive discounts on car rentals, computers,
hotels, Schlitterbahn, Sea World, insurance, electronics, airline flights, and
more!

And now at Jollyville events, we'll be raffling off cool prizes ONLY for PTA
members! Show us your membership card at the door!

Does joining PTA mean I will be volunteered for a job?

No, you absolutely do not have to volunteer to be a member. Membership allows
you to vote on decisions about the way we spend the money we raise (which
items we buy for the school). We certainly welcome all members the
opportunity to share theirtalents, but it is absolutely not required.

However, we always need volunteers for the wonderful events we have for our
students: Autumn Blast Carnival, Field Trips, Patriotic Night, Reflections
Contest, Talent Show, Field Day, Jollyville Marathon, Read-a-thon, Class
Parties, and many more. Without volunteers, these events won't happen.

Why do we need to "fundraise"? Jollyville is a public school - doesn't the government pay for everything?

You would think so! But no, that is NOT the case. Jollyville needs PTA to
pay for many things. Our budget is approximately $30,000! We pay for things
like school buses for field trips, magazines & books for the library &
students, Field Day, cultural arts programs, author visits, Teacher & Staff
Appreciation, landscaping, parenting support, playground equipment, Sun
Shade,Safety Patrol equipment & supplies, student recognition, 5th grade
Graduation,and so much more!

We want to have fundraisers that parents & students support! So, please join
PTA and let your voice be heard. Jollyville is OUR school! Let's all get
involved and help our students have a GREAT Jollyville experience!

How do I join PTA?

Contact someone on the Executive Board (See PTA Executive Board & Mission
page). We'll give you a membership form to complete. Attach $6.00 for each
membership (each adult in the family can join) and return to your child's
teacher. A membership card will be sent home with your student in their
Thursday folder.

We are having a contest until November 24th to see which classroom can reach
100% PTA membership. The winning class gets an ice cream party!!

Can I go to PTA Executive Board Meetings?

Yes, we welcome ANYONE to come to our Executive Board meetings. You would be
able to keep informed of what all the PTA does to help. We meet the first
Wednesday of every month at 4:30pm in the library (see our Calendar page).

I don't have childcare during the day. Can I bring my children with me to the 4:30pm Executive Board Meeting?

Absolutely! We meet in the library, so your children are welcome to sit and
read or play quietly in the reading corner. As long as they have an activity
to do (color, read, etc.), they enjoy each other's company and allow us to
conduct our business.

How can I help?

You can share your talents by helping out at an event or even
planning the event! Whatever matches your desire level & time
schedule. We are all very busy with our lives, but even 3 hours per school
year would help tremendously! Please contact anyone on the Executive PTA
Board (see our PTA Executive Board & Mission page). We'll be happy to match
you with a position that fits your needs.
