How long is the Paper Recycling Contest and how did LME do?

The 2006 contest ran from march through april 2006. Families broughtin over
45 TONS of newspapers, papers, magazines, mail and brochures (no phone books
or corregated boxes) and we won 2nd place in the 3 bin or more category!!

Every day, however, you are encouraged to bring paper to recycle in our
three Paper Retriever bins. Laurel Mountain receives money for each bin of
paper recycled.

Why are phone books not allowed?

The paper used in phone books has so little paper fiber left in it that the
books cannot be recycled down into more paper. Our recycled paper is
recycled into paper products. (See Abitibi's web site for a full detailed
description on how their system works.)

There are, however, several recycling vendors that ship the phone books to
centers where they are recycled into insulation products.

Can I help work with Laurel Mountains Green Team?

Absolutely. We can always use part-time or continued volunteer help with
our recycling efforts througout the year. Please refer to our calendar page
to pencil in upcoming Green Team meetings. At this time we have 4 teachers,
one volunteer parent, and one volunteer alumni parent who make up our Green
Team. We are happy to have anyone interested in taking part to please stop
by and take part in our meetings.
