About Us ...

We recycle, conserve and learn!

About Us .

The Green Lions (originally called the Green Team) has only been active at
Laurel Mountain for a short number of years.

A few of the successes recognized over the past few years are:
   a. we saved over 125 cubic yards of landfill space by recycling paper.
   b. we have won or placed every year in the Abitibis' annual recycling
      contest.
   c. we received a grant to purchase a stand alone greenhouse.
   d. we learned to watch our classroom wattage, saved energy and saved
facility costs for LME and Round Rock ISD.
   e. we created an ecosystem-aware environment for campuswide use.
   f. we celebrate earth day campus-wide by cleaning our campus; planting
new flowers/plants and releasing thousands of ladybugs.
   g. The creation of a bird sanctuary and a wildlife preserve.
   h. We now have a shed to store our tools and supplies.

Mission For The Campus

The Green Team is a group of concerned staff, parents and students
dedicated to promoting recycling and conservation efforts at LME.

Our short term goal is to put campus-wide procedures in place that would
encourage recycling and conservation, strengthen everyday recycling and
conservation practices and provide daily reminders of the tangible results.

Our longer term goal is to expand the reach of the campus
recycling/conservation program targeting other Round Rock ISD locations and
neighborhood groups; to advance and support education efforts that develop
an environmentally conscious and responsible public; and to inspire personal
responsibility in caring for the environment.

The Green Team is working to involve the students with projects and studies
that help them to connect with nature and develop an appreciation for and
an awareness of, maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

If you have an interest in becoming part of our green team please send an
email to william_earley@roundrockisd.org

Here are a few ideas of things to help out with if you wish.

1. Being a volunteer for our ecology club. Our club meets every Friday
from 3:00 - 4:00. We have a number of groups available to work with. We
have a gardening group with Kinder aged students, a wildflower / butterfly
group, a birding group, and a maintenance group. We currently have parent
volunteers for these groups and it is the only way we are able to have these
specific focus groups. We encourage anyone who is even mildly interested to
give it a try even once a month. Your time would be greatly appreciated.

2. Organizing the paper drive or ink cartridge drives.
