This will be my first year using a binder organizational system to help
students develop the responsibility and organizational skills necessary to be
successful in 3rd grade and beyond. The goal is to foster personal
accountability.

What is a Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T.?
A Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T is a 3-prong folder that will be given to your child
in the first week of school to help them develop organizational skills and to
teach them about responsibility. Your child will be required to take their
Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T home each day and bring it back to school each day.
This will be part of their homework requirements and weekly conduct grade.
Each student will only get one folder, so students must follow Penguin
P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T rules (see below). If the folder is lost or damaged, the
student will have to replace it.
What does Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T. stand for?
The Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T. was named after our classroom mascot, the
penguin! P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T is an acronym for:
Parents
And
Students
Study
Prepare
Organize &

What are the responsibilities that go with the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T for students? parents? teachers?
Students: Students are the primary responsible party. Their job is to remember
to take their Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T to and from school EVERY day and
tofollow the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T rules. They are also responsible for
ASKING you to look through and initial their planner each night. If they bring
back
an unsigned planner, there will not be a consequence. However, unsigned
conduct grades or forgetting the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T will result in a loss
of recess time.
Parents: Please help support your child's progress in developing independence
at school! At first they may need frequent reminders to pack their Penguin
P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T in their backpack. Ideally, this will be needed less as the
year progresses. You will need to initial the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T each.
This will be on the calendar page for that day's date. Take this as an
opportunity to look through the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T and any completed work
with your child. Finally, you will need to sign the daily planner each Friday
to acknowledge you have received the week's conduct grade. Please try to
encourage your child to develop personal responsibility by allowing them to
ASK you to look through and sign their binder. Many times, students are happy
to allow parents to take responsibility for incomplete homework, unsigned
planners, etc. Our goal is to transition this responsibility to your child so
they can develop the independence needed to be successful both now and as they
move towards middle school.
Teacher: My job is to help your child learn to effectively use this learning
tool! We will do lessons early in the year to help us learn to organize our
materials and be our best. In addition, I will be checking student binders
regularly to ensure they are mastering our goals for organization.
What are the Penguin P.A.S.S.P.O.R.T. rules?
1. Do not eat or drink in with your PASSPORT
2. Do not write in or on your PASSPORT.
3. Do not let anyone borrow your PASSPORT.
4. You are responsible for your PASSPORT. Bring it with you everyday and take
it home at night.
5. Share your PASSPORT with your parents every night!
6. Be gentle with your PASSPORT and take care of it! We each get one PASSPORT
to last us all of 3rd grade!
7. Don't add anything to your PASSPORT that doesn't belong there!
8. Clean out papers from your PASSPORT regularly. Leave out the papers that
belong at home so new papers can be neatly fit in.

fundraising money, field trip money, and notes for Mrs. Davies.

What is the daily planner?
Each Penguin will also have a daily planner where students will
write down their homework. Students are responsible for getting an adult to
check and sign their planner each FRIDAY.
I will be checking planners on Monday to be sure they have been signed. It is
your child's responsibility to get their planner signed, and those who do not
will spend recess in study hall.
Parents please check planners for:
* Behavior/Conduct Reports
* Individual notes or progress reports from teachers
* Daily homework assignments
* Reminders
