Getting to the Core:
This week we began our study on natural resources. We focused on different types of soil and

Munchable Math at Home:
It has been all about measurement this week in math! We have been exploring length, weight and
area and have tied these in with our science unit by measuring soil masses. We will start
fractions soon. Remember to count by 2's, 5's, 10's at home for practice!
Soil Quotes:

Friedlander's Class
"Sand is soil. Dirt, clay and potting soil are all types of soil. Water is not soil." Matthew
C. and Matthew H. in Ms. Thornton's Class
"Inside soil there are worms that the birds can eat." Jessica in Ms. Cavett's Class
The Editorial; Opinions from the Orchard:
For one of our culminating activities at the end of this quarter we always like to have a book
exchange. At home you and your child may pick a new or gently used book that you would like to
give to another student in the class. Please WRAP the book in holiday paper and write BOY or
GIRL on the front (NO NAMES PLEASE!) Then, at school on Thursday, December 18th the students
will all get to exchange books and take their new book home! Thank you in advance for helping
your child participate in this activity!
