NEW TODAY:

We are almost done with the year. Students will be learning Algebra to
better prepare themselves for their Freshman year of math. It has been a
pleasure to have your kiddos in my class this year and I will miss them.

School Rules:
1. Be Safe: hands, feet and objects to yourself (remember-no throwing things)
2. Be Respectful: all personal conversations end when class begins!
3. Be Responsible: remember, your goal is to pass TAKS and move on to the
    9th grade!!

Class Rules:
1. Show ALL work: partial credit is ALWAYS given
2. Don't give up, give it a try: use your problem solving strategies,
    especially when you get stuck
3. Attempt homework on your own: if you need help just ask!
4. Come for tutorials (b4 or after school): a math teacher is ALWAYS
available, it might not be me but that's ok.
5. Come prepared and ready to LEARN: planner/calendar, homework, warm-up
done
a.s.a.p., pencil sharpened, eyes and ears on teacher and ready for
    instructions.

Grading:
Tests and Projects: 50%
Classwork & Quizzes: 40%
Homework: 10%

Assignment Guidelines:
1.) ALL work must be shown for full credit
2.) ALL assignments must be turned in on time
3.) When absent, it is the student's responsibility to get make-up work.
The students need to locate the assignment(s) for the day he/she
was absent. I will make a general reminder to pick up the assignment(s) and
to turn them in but I will not remind each student individually.

Below are the district guidelines for late work. Chronic abuse, more than
thre late assignments during any on grading period, may result in additional
consequences.

Days Late: Percent of Grade Received by Student/Example(s)

1 day or class Periods late: 10% off actual grade

2 days or class Periods late: -20%

3 days or class Periods late: -30%

4 or more days or class Periods late: 0! (D-HALL & Office Referral)

NO CREDIT will be given; a grade of ZERO will be recorded!

RE-Test/Test Corrections:
The student must attend an after school tutorial covering the test material in
order to retest. Re-tests will be givent after school only. There is not
enough time in the morning.

1. The two test grades will be averaged for the new grade.
2. If the 2nd test grade is passing but the average of the two tests are
not,
a grade of 70 will be recorded.
3. If the 2nd test is failed, the higher of the two failing grades will be
   recorded.

Organization:
All students are expected to keep a folder (1st one provided by Mrs. Thompson)
for handouts and graded papers and a planner or calendar to keep track of
daily assignments.

If at anytime you should have questions and/or comments about your child's
classroom performance please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to
a positive and rewarding school year and I hope that you can be an active part
of your child's school experience and remember MATH ROCKS!!!

MATH IS COOL! I LOVE MATH!
