I was born and raised in the Minneapolis area and moved to Texas in 1991. I
received my degree in Elementary Education from Luther College in Decorah,
Iowa. I have taught 5th grade for 8 years. I have also taught Elementary
Music for 2 years, and worked as a paraprofessional in the role of the
embedded substitute for 1 year. I am married and have two daughters.
Elizabeth is a sophomore at McNeil High School, and Katie is a 6th grader at
Walsh Middle School.
I took a break from full-time teaching when my daughters were small, and
worked at a preschool teaching 2 and 3 year olds. I am currently teaching
Language Arts and Social Studies and teaming with Ms. Vargas. I also
received my certification as a Talented and Gifted cluster teacher.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies, reading books, walking my black
lab, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers! Go Pack!
Ms. Leal's 5th graders will do their personal best in all areas:
1) We will do our best to pass the Reading,Math, and Science STAAR tests.
2) We will do our best to read 5 nights a week. We will also read books in a
variety of genres and reading levels. We will complete our nightly reading.
3) We will do our best to follow the rules of the classroom ( the ideal
classroom) that we all created and agreed to.
4) We will do our best on our daily assignments, and we will turn all
homework in on time. We will take responsibility for our actions and not
make excuses.
5) We will achieve social success with our friends and teachers and act
appropriately at all times. We will follow the Star Texan rules.
6) We will be ready for middle school by doing our personal best always!
