When does my child need a physical and when does it need to be updated

Your child needs a Physical when he/she is going to participate in
extracurricular activities at OLG. The Physical and Medical History are good
for one (1) calendar year, not school year. In the event, your child
required surgery (e.g. appendicitis), then your child will have to update
his/her physical and medical history forms. It is very important that the
parents are aware of when their child physical is due for an update. If the
student's physical has expired, he/she will not be able to participate until
an updated physical and medical history forms are updated.

Do Permission Forms need to be submitted for every sport?

No. Your child only needs to turn in one permission form one time during the
current school year to play sports at OLG. If you change insurance companies,
job, and/or Doctors, you need to update the permission form and resubmit the
forms to the school office. The Permission forms are only valid for the
current school year and need to be updated annually.

Who contacts me in the event my child gets hurt in a sport?

The coach, Athletic Director, and/or Principal will call you should this
situation arise. The coach's are required to take the permission forms to
all practices, games, and/or tournaments. It is very important that your
permission form you sumbitted is accurate and up to date.

Who should I talk to if my child isn't receiving enough playing time?

The coach for that particular sport is the first line of command. If the
issue is not resolved, please inform the Athletic Director. If you are not
satisfied with the outcome, the Athletic Director will inform the principal
and we may have to meet to resolve the issue.

I would like to volunteer as a coach at OLG, what do I need to do?

FIRST, you need to take a FREE VIRTUS workshop (3 hours) that is required by
the Arch-Dioces of Galveston-Houston if you are going to be around children
at OLG. The website is https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_0.cfm?
theme=0. Please select Galveston-Houston and follow the instructions on the
screen. Once you have completed the course, you will need to talk to the
Athletic Director and see if there are any open positions available for you
to coach.

If my child makes a team, how much playing time will he/she receive?

Every student-athlete will have the opportunity for playing time, however,
it is up to the discretion of the coach on how much playing time your child
will receive. Please be aware that if your child is in 5th/6th grade and is
playing at the varsity level (8th graders), your child may have limited
playing time for the safety of your child. They will be going up against
other student-athletes 2 to 3 years older than your child, size and speed
play an important role at this level.
