Helpful Hints for Teaching Your Child to Read!
Learning to read should be easy and fun. Here are some suggestions for
teaching children to read:
1. First of all, READ TO YOUR CHILD! Choose age-appropriate books and
read daily to your children.
2. Make up stories together. Write them down and read them together.
3. Play board games, word games, memory games, and card games.
4. Sing rhyming songs. Read rhyming books and poems. Encourage children to
fill in the expected rhyming words as you read.
5. Make a game out of reading words from signs as you are driving to and from
school.
Helpful Hints for Getting Homework Done!
1. Just as parents need time to unwind when they return home from work, so do
children need that time. Give your child at least 20 minutes to change, get a
snack, and relax. Set a timer if you need to. When the timer goes off, it is
time for homework to begin.
2. Have your child within hearing range as they do homework. Help them as
needed but strive to make them responsible and independent when it comes to
homework. Do check that all homework has been replaced in backpacks when done.
