Dear Patsy Sommer Family,
I would like to welcome everyone back for the next exciting year at Sommer! This is the fourth year
our school will be open and I am looking forward to another great school year.
I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher. Growing up I had wonderful role models as both
my parents were, and still are, involved in public education. Now my sister has become a teacher
herself and they all offer me never-ending support. I also am engaged to a wonderful
guy named Victor Valdez. He surprised me with a proposal in our classroom on December 17, 2009
during our Polar Express Day. We are both looking forward to planning our wedding and starting our
new lives together. Our wedding is planned for December 17, 2011.
Before coming to Sommer, I taught at Gattis Elementary as a first grade teacher for 8 years. Prior to
joining Round Rock ISD, I taught Kindergarten at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School in Granger,
TX. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Learning and Development from the
University of Texas at Austin in 1999 (Hook ‘em Horns!).
I have been involved in community learning by assisting in bilingual classrooms during several
summers in Taylor ISD. I was Teacher of the Year for Gattis Elementary in 2004, I have also served as
a District Collaborative TeacherLeader for four years, and served as a mentor for new teachers. I was
also the First Grade Team Leader at Sommer for the first two years the school was opened. During
the past few summers I was on committees to develop District Curriculum and Benchmark Work for
Social Studies and Language Arts. These experiences have allowed me to work with both students
and fellow teachers both at our school and across the District.
I look forward to our fourth year at Patsy Sommer Elementary and will work to provide a safe,
nurturing, and enriching environment for your child. Please feel free to contact me with any
questions you may have. By keeping the lines of communication open we ensure the success of your
child’s education.
I look forward to working with all of you this year!

My students and I will be building our mission statement for our classroom
when school starts. I will post our final draft when completed.
