SYLLABUS for Mr. Domecq's English 6
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I will like to introduce myself to you and to make you aware of some of the
requirements of this class.
I am a native of New Orleans and "floated" here on the flood waters of
Hurricane Katrina. My home and almost 30-year career in New Orleans
was "blown away" by the hurricane. I was lucky enough to be hired in
February of 2006 at Revere. For those who have welcomed so many of us to
Houston, I truly thank you and I want you to know that I am working very
hard to do the very best I can for your child. I promise to do whatever it
takes for your child to be special, expect greatness, and to FINISH STRONG!
The grading scale that I use in the official Revere Middle Schools scale:
100 - 90 A
89 - 80 B
79 - 75 C
74 - 70 D
69 and below F
Course Description:
Welcome to SpringBoard! SpringBoard is The College Board's official Pre-AP
program. It is highly engaging, student-centered, interactive, and standards-
based curriculum.
The SpringBoard program features scaffolded and purposeful sequence of
instruction, a systemic instruction in vocabulary and grammar with explicit
student instruction in the processes of reading and writing, and a strong,
deliberate connection to AP classes in high school, enabling college credits
to be earned in the last two years of high school.
Key features of SpringBoard are:
- Educational research
- Rigorous standards
- Instructional Framework focused on the end product.
- Purposeful learning activities
- Differentiated instruction
- Assessments, both formative and summative
Late and/or Incomplete Assignments:
I will make every reasonable effort to allow students to make up missed
assignments.
Incomplete Assignments turned in on time will be given 69% of the highest
grade
Late Completed Assignments will be given between 69% and 80% of the
highest grade if caused by an EXCUSED ABSENCE.
Work not turned in due to an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE will be given a "0."
No assignment will be accepted and/or counted toward a grade after the end
of a marking period.
Hall Pass:
Your child will be held accountable for the use of his or her pass. I would
like them to learn how to manage their own time. I tell them that they do
not have ask permission, however, they should, out of respect, inform me
because I am the teacher and have to sign their agenda. In most cases I will
let them leave immediately unless something very important is being
presented or there is some kind of situation in the halls. I will not issue
any written passes that students request from my class without his or her
agenda and their picture ID, that way you are able to keep track of how many
times your child leaves the room. The agenda must accompany the pass (NOT
just the pass page or, as we call it, "passport" page). Students must have
their ID to use the pass and no passes will be given the first and last
twenty minutes of class.
I am sorry to have to add an additional rule because of the pass usage the
first six weeks. I will have to limit usage of the hall pass to only two
passes during each marking period. Please encourage you son or daughter to
ONLY ask for a pass in case of an emergency.
Office Hours:(as of now...these time may change...check back often.)

P.S. All incomplete assignments can be completed before or after school with
prior arrangements. I will NOT allow anyone to fail this class because they
did not do the work!
