Announcements 2nd Six Weeks

Thursday, 11/5/09
The Unit Test for Latin America is scheduled for Wednesday, 11/11.  The Study
Guide was distributed yesterday.
Tuesday, 11/3/09
For the Quiz on Mayas, Aztecs, Incas & Latin America Maps, students who
scored less than a 70 may attend tutorials to participate in a re-teach & re-
do to improve the score.  The ONLY time for this is Thursday, 11/5. Students
must bring the yellow answer sheet with a parent signature.
Thursday, 11/5 is also the GRADING DEADLINE for all assignments for the 2nd
six weeks grading cycle.

Tuesday, 10/27/09
There will be a quiz on Friday, 10/30 on Mayas, Aztecs, Incas & Latin America
Maps. Students may study Workbook page 16 and the Latin America Maps to
prepare.
Remember that the Top Scholar Project is also due on Friday, 10/30.
Thursday, 10/22/09
Instructions for Creating Comparison Graphs:
From the project packet, take out the sheet labeled "Comparison Graphs".
Go to CultureGrams, then World Edition.  Click on continent and then assigned
country.
In the right column is a box labeled "Tools", click on "Graphs & Tables".
In the left column under "Build Your Own", click on "Comparison Graphs".
While holding down the Control key (hold until I instruct to release), click
on your two assigned countries, Mexico & U.S.
Then click on Real GDP per capita, Adult Literacy and Probability of not
surviving to 40 (use may now release the Control key).
A new window will open with 3 graphs.  Verify that it has the correct 4
countries and 3 categories, then use "Print Window" in upper left corner to
print.
Glue the entire sheet to the sheet in the packet so the three questions are
on the back.
Wednesday, 10/21/09
Students are working on the Top Scholar Latin America project.  Packets and
maps were provided to each student. If students need extra copies, the sheets
are available on "Downloads" for printing.  Maps were printed from
CultureGrams.  For complete information, please download the Top Scholar
Introduction with calendar.  The project is due Friday, 10/30 and there is a
point deduction for those turned in after the due date.
Thursday, 10/15/09
Students will begin their Latin America Project next week.  There are
multiple pages that will be sent home for the project.  Please provide a
report cover by Monday, 10/19 so that papers may be inserted for safe keeping
when they are distributed on Monday.
Tuesday, 10/13/09
The Canada & Economics Test was returned to students today.  All students
have the opportunity to earn back half credit to improve their score by
making test corrections during tutorials. Students who scored less than a 70
are required to complete test corrections.
Students who did not turn in Workbook page 16 that was assigned Friday, 10/9
and due today, 10/13, must attend tutorials today, Thursday, or next Monday
to turn in the assignment and earn full credit.  After next Monday, 10/19,
students must attend tutorials but will only earn up to 70%.
The grade is currently recorded as "Msg" (missing) and calculated as a "0" in
the average. Remember that the grading deadline for Progress Reports is this
Friday 10/16.

**Students who do not turn in homework on the day it is due are required to
attend after school tutorials that day in order to complete the assignment.
If students fail to attend the required tutorial session, they will be
assigned to after school detention on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday 3:40-5:00
(late bus is provided).
***Report Cards will be distributed on Wednesday, 9/30 during Advisory class
and are required to be signed and returned by Friday, 10/2.
