How are grades determined?
For Language Arts, there will be five main categories for grades: Reading, Vocabulary, Writing, Conventions, and Speaking. Within each category, there will be specific skills students are expected to master each six weeks. Some of these skills are recurring throughout the year, so students will have multiple opportunities to improve their skills if they do master them in the beginning. For each skill, Language Arts will follow Ridgeview’s standards for learning scales.Back to Top

How can I help my son/daughter stay organized?
For Language Arts, everyone should have an accordian binder with two of the dividers labeled with the following titles:ReadingWritingParents can help by periodically checking to see that students are placing their papers in the appropriate sections (and not just stuffing papers randomly or loosely into the binder). In addition, I strongly recommend that parents check student organizers on a weekly basis to make sure students are writingdown the homework each day (this can be double-checked foraccuracy by checking my Class Logs and Homework page). Also, I ask all students to write a note in their planner if they do not have their assignments ready on the due date. I then aim to initial these notes. This is another way you can tell whether or not your son or daughter is staying organized and turning things in on time in Language Arts.Back to Top
