I grew up in Houston, Texas, and had the privilege of graduating from a
magnet school called the High School for Performing and Visual Arts(HSPVA).
Then I attended Baylor University (Go Bears!), where I graduated Magna Cum
Laude and earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education with a
specialization in English as well as an ESL endorsement. When it became time
for me to enter "The Real World," I taught 9th Grade English for four and a
half years at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. During that time,
I married a wonderful man, and my husband's job soon brought us to the
beautiful city of Austin, Texas. I accepted a job teaching 6th grade instead
of 9th. It didn't take long for me to realize how much I really enjoyed
working with 6th graders!!!
Throughout the past nine years that I have taught at Ridgeview, I have
seen incredible progress every single year in terms of school processes,
curriculum, and meeting the needs of all students! Once again, I am looking
forward to implementing new programs/ideas this year as we continue to strive
for excellence in both our classrooms and our school as a whole!
My mission is to help all students improve their reading fluency, reading
comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and (of course!) writing skills.
Throughout the year, I hope to enable students to use higher level thinking
skills as well as encourage them to make constant connections to themselves,
to various works of literature, to history, and to the real world.
Furthermore, I will aim to inspire students to use various tools and
techniques that will help them stand out among hundreds of other people and
reach their goals in the midst of a highly competitive society. My students
and I will monitor their progress throughout the year so we can address areas
of weakness as well as look for and celebrate success!
