Below is the text of an email I received from our AP Coordinator:

"We need to get this info to our AP students quickly so their families can start budgeting and be ready to pay for AP exams at the end of February/beginning of March (exact dates pending). • Bottom line: last year, kids paid $57 per AP test. This year, they will pay $87 per test. (excluding Free & Reduced students) • Explanation: The College Board price last year was already $87. But the State of Texas paid $30 per test per student directly to the College Board (and did for many years) so that Texas students only paid $57. This wonderful program was one of the items that got cut in the state budget crunch last summer. • One more thing: The district is looking at an online registration system for AP exams that will accept credit cards, checks. etc. If the district goes ahead with this, it is possible there would be a $4 fee per test added, also, bringing each test to $91. This is being decided later this month by central adminstration. I will let you know as soon as I have their decision. Again, I wish it was better news. Please tell the kids so their families are prepared. As always, assistance will be available to our Free & Reduced students and other families in crisis. But for the majority of our AP students, this will be a large increase in fees. We just really need to reinforce with the students, however, that this is still MUCH cheaper than taking a class in college."
