Grading Policy

Assignment Grading Policy [See EIA (Regulation)]

The grade book will be a teacher’s record and/or file of evidence to support grades reported on the report card. Grades will be logical, justifiable, and sufficient in number to assure that the report card grade is an accurate measure of the student’s progress and achievement.

In order to be awarded a grade of "70" in a course or subject, a student must demonstrate 70 percent mastery of the District’s curriculum objectives in any recording period.

Teachers will provide a sufficient number of grades to allow multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery. The processes and criteria for grading, reteaching, and redoing will be consistent on a campus for each subject or grade level. Teachers will be required to have at least one grade per week beginning the first full week of school.

When determining six-weeks averages, campus administration and departments/course levels will establish guidelines that govern assessment/grades. (Revised 9/28/11)

Final exams will be weighted 15% at high school.

As required by state law HB 3, performance on the STAAR EOC exam will count 15% of a student’s grade in those courses for which an end-of-course exam exists.

The processes and criteria for grading, re-teach, and re-do will be consistent on a campus for each subject/grade level.Secondary Student-Parent Handbook 24 2011-2012

A minimum grade shall not be required of a teacher for an assignment. The assignment’s grade shall reflect the quality of the student’s work. Consistent with grading guidelines, a classroom teacher shall provide a student a reasonable and fair opportunity though the re-teaching option, such as E2020, to make up or redo a class assignment or examination for which the student earned a failing grade. See Policy EIA (Local).

Grade Corrections

Student requests for grade corrections on report cards should be timely. Errors on the report card should be reported to the teacher within ten days after receipt of the report card.
