My credentials: I have taught in special education as well as
general education, from kindergarten through high school. During that time, I
have worked in residential treatment and disciplinary settings, managing
behavior, as well as facilitating programs for students who have not mastered
TAKS skills. My masters is in reading education, and I am certified in
elementary education, special education, English as a second language, English
and Reading 8 - 12, as well as a Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher.
Personal: I live in Round Rock with Charlie, my 17 lb gray cat. My oldest son
lives in Georgetown, and my daughter and younger son live in Austin.
District Goal #2: Increase the high school completion rate for economically
disadvantaged, African American, and Hispanic students
Personal Goal #1: Decrease the percentage of the target population failing
exit reading TAKS by 30%.
Action steps
• Increase the number of sophomore and junior students receiving
direct reading intervention by 97% by designing and facilitating
reading clinics based on specific reading skills
• Design and implement a cross-curricular content vocabulary program
based on Marzano’s 5 step vocabulary development model
• Design intervention materials for the TAKS reading class to be used
instead of the workbook by November 2009
Personal Goal #2: Increase the positive response of the aforementioned
subgroups to instructional settings as evidenced by 10% increase in and 10%
more target population students passing core classes.
Action step
• Create 1 multicultural lessons for each core content area in each 3
week period for targeted high stakes TEKS, linking more closely the
instructional content with the students’ daily life, thereby adding
relevance to learning
• Provide and update information on the educational issues of each
named subgroup to the staff in a wiki and on my teacher web
• All presentations and information presented for the remainder of the
year will contain a multicultural/ multiethnic element
