About The Literacy Coach

My credentials: I have taught in special education as well as
general education, from kindergarten through high school. During that time, I
have worked in residential treatment and disciplinary settings, managing
behavior, as well as facilitating programs for students who have not mastered
TAKS skills. My masters is in reading education, and I am certified in
elementary education, special education, English as a second language, English
and Reading 8 - 12, as well as a Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher.
Personal: I live in Round Rock with Charlie, my 17 lb gray cat. My oldest son
lives in Georgetown, and my daughter and younger son live in Austin.

My SMART Goals

District Goal #2: Increase the high school completion rate for economically
disadvantaged, African American, and Hispanic students
Personal Goal #1: Decrease the percentage of the target population failing
exit reading TAKS by 30%.
Action steps
      •	Increase the number of sophomore and junior students receiving
direct reading intervention by 97% by designing and facilitating
reading clinics based on specific reading skills
      •	Design and implement a cross-curricular content vocabulary program
based on Marzano’s 5 step vocabulary development model
      •	Design intervention materials for the TAKS reading class to be used
instead of the workbook by November 2009

Personal Goal #2: Increase the positive response of the aforementioned
subgroups to instructional settings as evidenced by 10% increase in and 10%
more target population students passing core classes.
Action step
     • Create 1 multicultural lessons for each core content area in each 3
week period for targeted high stakes TEKS, linking more closely the
instructional content with the students’ daily life, thereby adding
        relevance to learning
     •	Provide and update information on the educational issues of each
named subgroup to the staff in a wiki and on my teacher web
     •	All presentations and information presented for the remainder of the
year will contain a multicultural/ multiethnic element
