Do you accept late work? As of the spring semester of 2012, I wiil no longer accept late work from AP students. Students are given a syllabus and ample time to complete assignments. In fact, because I accepted late work during the fall of 2011, I have data to show that the amount of late work actually increased. Turning in assignments in a timely manner is a study skill which will greatly increase the sucess of students in high school as well as college.
Can I do extra credit? Students are encouraged to bring in newpaper and magazine articles that relate to topics that we are covering. If you choose to do this, I will expect that you give the class a brief oral summary of the article and explain how it realtes to what we are covering. Anyone who chooses to do this will receive extra credit. I also LOVE cartoons that can be used to explain or illustrate some aspect of psychology or sociology. Bring in a cartoon, explain how it relates to our subject and you will receive extra credit. In addition, all AP chapters have a set of learning goals which students can answer and recieve an additional 3 points on their test.
How can I get assignments to you if I know I am going to be out? You may email me any assignmet. You may email them to me at the school: linann_ward@roundrockisd.org or you may email them to me at linannw@yahoo.com
What do I do if I fail a test? If you fail a test, then we need to work together to make sure that you are understanding the material. You may correct your test for 1/2 of your points back. You may also demonstrate to me that you understand anything that you missed by another means of your choice (explain it to me orally, etc.)
How do you feel about tardies? Certainly there are valid reasons for being late to class, but everyday--I think NOT. I believe that it is my responsibility to be in class, prepared to engage you in learning. I take this responsibility very seriously and consider it a sign of respect to you for NOT WASTING your time. Therefore, I require the same level of respect to have your attendance in class, ready to learn and ON TIME.
