Afternoon Parental Units,
Well, this is it. The final World Geography email. The grades are in, the scores have come back, and all is well in Dragonland!
First the numbers…Round Rock HS Freshman did a fantastic job on the World Geography End-Of-Course STARR test. We had a 97% passing rate! One of our goals was to beat Westwood. Even though they outscored us, it was only by ONE point. Take that nationally academically ranked warriors! Dragon Frosh are more than on your heels! McNeil, btw, had a 93% passing rate.
As for my students…I have not as of yet seen the individual scores but, of the 146 kids I had take the EOC, only 1 failed! (I was upset earlier this month when I was nominated as ‘Hardest Teacher’ for the third year in a row by RRHS students but, I guess there was a silver lining to the rigor I put kids through year in, year out).
Over-all, however, looks like there will be four (4) of my kid failing. One PreAP and three Academic.
I’ll be off to Seattle, SW Canada, Oregon, and northern CA with my kids for about 3 weeks (ahh, driving trips!) I have been asked by students about the Europe trips and I may plan another for March (Spring Break) or June of 2014. That would give your child (and you if you wished to join) plenty of time to beg for, earn, and receive the money they would need for the London, Paris, and Rome. Just email me in August or by Tuesday if more urgent and I will set up a ‘who is interested meeting’.
Outside of the above parents, uncles and aunts, big brothers and big sisters, grandparents, and foster parents (aka: Parental Units), HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH YOUR NO LONGER LITTLE ONES! They have proven that they can tackle, and survive high school, growing up, and all the things that go with them.
Thank you for all that you do for RRHS!

Afternoon Parental Units,
PROGRESS REPORTS WERE HANDED OUT TODAY DURING 2NDPERIOD. Your child should be handing it to you today with smiling face. If not, you can always go to HomeAcess, to check their progress as of this past Tuesday.
The EOC for World Geography is here!
Have your child open this site
http://www.texasassessment.com/training_resources/onlinetesting/
then goto: Texas-Specific Testing Tools
During the weekend, please have your little one study:
- EQs from the entire year
- Go over papers / homework dealing with the PECS (Political, Economic, Cultural, and Social Issues)
- Review the EOC Camps (on my website)
Presently we know that ½ of the Frosh will be taking the EOC on Monday in the Library and in the 200, 500, and 600 buildings. The other ½ will be taking it on Tuesday. After the 4 hour test, B-day kids will go to C lunch and then to 8thperiod. On Tuesday, same…but, then students go to 4thperiod.
Speaking of that; during the week of May 22nd, when your child is in class for that 2 hour plus day, they will be doing 3 assignments for grades:
- Notebook CELSur(quiz)
- COL over The Life Of Pi
- World History Project (students will be given World History assignments as a prep to next year’s
course)
Freshmen in World Geography, English, Math, and Biology do not take Final Exams. They cannot, exempt any of their core classes. They will be allowed, however, to exempt any 2 of their electives. We were instructed that it cannot be a ‘blow-off’ day, so we decided to have both the test and the project done on the day your child is scheduled for the final exam. Neither will be too long to not to complete.
IF THERE IS ANY MORE PERTENENT INFORMATION ABOUT THE EOC, I SHALL SEND ANOTHER EMAIL.
Thank you for your support and understanding,

16 April 2012
My Apologies for not sending one of these earlier.
Report Cards were given out this past Friday. So, hopefully, you have them by now.
We are on the final stretch. The final unit (9) will be split into two groupings since there is TAKS and EOC testing going on during this six weeks.
There is a CELSur (quiz) tomorrow (B day) and Wednesday (A day) over Unit 9 Learning Goal 3...Have your child go over the ENTIRE powerpoint. Especially the pictures of what each Economic activity and levels they covered in class.
(BTW: Unit 9 LG2 has it's own icon. There were 6 parts to it so I created an icon on the bottom right of my webpage)
I will start typing in grades tonight but, your child should have 3 grades in the computer by tomorrow afternoon.
The Unit 9A Celebration of Learning (test) is this Thursday (B day) and Friday (A day). Unit 9 B will be on the 18 (A) / 21(B)

Final Examsare slated fromTuesday May 22thru Friday May 25. What Geography is CONSIDERING is that they will have a in-class project which they will receive and complete during their Final Exam period which will be graded. If anything changes, I will notify you.
3 of my 6 classes received ice cream parties this time around for maxing out when it came to class averages. PreAP must get up to 90%....Academic class must average 85%. The other three all had mid to high 80s. Given time, kids will always show that they can achieve once they catch on.
Finally, Powder Puff Football is this Wednesday. Come out and enjoy. Dragon Stadium 5PM.

22 March
Good Morning Parental Units,
I just picked up Progress Reports for my class. Teachers will be handing them out during second period today. Just like always, they must sign for them. You should have them in your hands tonight.
The next homework assignment students have is a reading on Kashmir. It is on my website (purple folder). They are to write a short answer responce - 40 to 60 words - on the given prompt.
For parents who's child failed two consecutive notebook CELSurs (quizzes) at the end of the 3rd and 4th six weeks. In order to help them acheive a passing grade the 5th six weeks, I am going to hold a mandatory afterschool detention to help your child organize their notebooks. These quizzes affect their grades. Passing them (they can make up to 115%) I replace their lowest daily or CELSur grade (not including missing assignments), with that Notebook CELSur. Organizational skills are the best way for all to have.
Just came from an End Of Course meeting, I need to add one more thing. Students will be taking there English EOC Monday (Writing) and Tuesday (Reading). Testing will last 4 hours. All freshmen will be going to C Lunch - 1:55 to 2:32. They will then go to 4th period (Monday) and 8th period (Tuesday). Since the EOC is no longer worth 15% of their grades (for this year only) students will be taking, and are not exempt from taking, their Math, Biology, English, and World Geography finals in May.
Thank you for your support and understanding,
