*Media Literacy: A focus on film analysis,cinematic choices,
and film terms
*Canterbury Tales: a study of satire, irony,character,
and characterization
*Persuasive Writing: Choosing a husband for the WIFE OF BATH-
from three suitors.
PREVIEW OF THE 3rd SIX WEEKS
*Sonnets: Analysis, self-selection, self composed
*Shakespeare Play: HAMLET or MACBETH
*Creating a theme statement and a GRAPHIC NOVEL for a
Shakespeare play
WELCOME TO SEMESTER II of ENGLISH IV
PREVIEW OF THE 4th SIX WEEKS
*Persuasion: A major persuasive essay based on the student
writer's view of the suitability of a challenged novel for
the classroom or proper classroom level. All novels are
from the Round Rock acceptable reading list.
*Student Selected Novel: To be used as the basis of the
persuasive essay. Students will be expected to
critically
read and analyze the novel as well as research the
novel's
public reception and artistic merit.
*The impact of Satire, especially as a form of persuasion.
The elements of sarcasm and irony will also be
studied.
PREVIEW OF THE 5TH SIX WEEEKS
MAJOR GRADES
1) Essay Test comparing/contrasting two related poems
2) Poetry Pairs Project- Student taught lessons on a British poet
and 1-2 of his/her poems.
This six weeks is focused on poetry and the novel.

1) SOCRATIC SEMINAR (Discussion of the novel we are reading)
2) ESSAY TEST relating to a KEY THEME of our studied novel
