I have taught at Round Rock High School since 1985 and have
taught in other schools in Ohio, Arizona, and Texas. I have taught
compostion and literature classes at Austin Community College since 1987.
I earned my bachelors degree from Kent State University, my masters degree
from Arizona State University, and completed post-graduate
work at the University of Texas. I earned National Board Teacher
Certification in 2002 and recently recertified in 2011.
Classes I've taught at Round Rock High School include Shakespeare,
Creative Writing, SAT prep, and English classes from grades 10-12.
My hobbies include white-water canoeing/kayaking, backpacking and
camping, soccer, softball, bicycling, racquetball, and travel. I have
collectible book collections of Jack London, Frank Norris, and Robert Burns.
Over the summer of 2006, our family toured Australia and
visited friends we made on a 1988 teaching exchange. In
June 2009, we vacationed in New York City. It was a great trip; we went to
quite a bit of theatre, to ground zero, to a David Letterman show, to Yankee
Stadium, and to Central Park. The NYC vacation was a special
trip for us, since our son, Will, graduated the June of 2009
and we considered this trip a last hurrah before Will started college at
Trinity University in San Antonio.
This spring, the spring of 2012, our son Will (now a junior in college),
an English major, will be studying in Galway, Ireland. We feel so fortunate
that Will has had the opportunity to study abroad.
Students are expected to think critically, express themselves clearly in
their speaking and writing, support each other in their learning, and
contribute to the classroom's learning environment.
