This is my 7th year at RRHS and my 12th. in the district. Before teaching
art, I taught sailing and windsurfing for 20 years, culminating with running
the Chicago Park District’s community sailing program and the Judd Goldman
Adaptive Sailing Program for people with disabilities. Both organizations
continue to provide opportunities for those who might not otherwise get the
chance to experience being out on the water. Although many years removed, I
still miss the Great Lakes but I am thrilled to continue teaching.
Teaching art also gives me the opportunity to help people explore new realms.
Perhaps my biggest challenge is to help students learn to appreciate art and
develop skills that many do not even know they have. I strive to motivate
all students to seek out the wonders in the world all around them and hope
that they can find ways to enjoy life more by being creative.
I hope to learn from my students so that I too, continue to grow and find
ways to appreciate and hopefully improve the world we live in.
I want students to learn to communicate their ideas and hopefully improve
their "world" through art. Every student can achieve success, even if they
do not intitially feel they have the skills needed to create art. I will
encourage all students to put forth their best efforts so that they can have
a positive experience.
