What is an AR quiz?

An Accelerated Reader quiz is a group of questions which are 
stored in
a database to test the comprehension level of a student after 
he/she
has read a book.  Not all books are AR books, but we have 
thousands in
our library.

How do I get access to my child's AR progress?

Go to the Home Connect web site:
https://hosted19.renlearn.com/232741/HomeConnect/Login.aspx
Log on using your child's name and password
that is used at school to take quizzes.

Where does my child get logon name and password?

Each teacher that assigns AR activities will
give each child a logon name and password.

Can my child re-take a quiz?

A child cannot usually re-take a quiz. However,
you may explain your situation to your teacher 
and allow a decision to be made.

How does a child earn points?

Points are awarded when a child passes a Reading Practice Quiz.
If they do not pass the quiz, they get no points.
No points are awarded for a Vocabulary Quiz, nor for a
Literacy Skills Quiz.  However, these are great tools
for improving vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Do all quizzes award points?

Points are only awarded for the Reading Practice Quizzes.
No points are awarded for a Vocabulary Quiz.  However, 
these are great for improving vocabulary skills.

When can my child take a Vocabulary Quiz?

Only some books have a Vocabulary Quiz. It can only be 
taken AFTER the Reading Practice Quiz has been taken 
on the same book.

What are the points used for?

First grade is a practice year for taking AR quizzes.
You will find out at the end of the year how many
total points were earned, and a Certificate will be given
for earning points.

Can we transfer points over to the next school year?

No, points are not transferred to the next school year.
We see no need for that.

When can they take an AR quiz?

AR quizzes can be taken on campus computers on Monday thru 
Friday 
between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  They need to have an adult type in
the "monitor" password.

Can I read the questions to my child?

Actually, the students are required to read the questions on the 
quizzes by themselves.  If they need to have the questions read 
to them, 
possibly the book is too hard for them to read.
