Mrs. Fong's News Page

 Dear Kindergarten Parents,
What a wonderful, wintery week we had. In Language Arts we focused a book
called “Little Quack”. In the story a family of ducks learns to swim. The
book included math concepts and we used this book to discuss and practice
adding to make five. In Math we are wrapping up chapter 4. We have
practiced our ordinal numbers and numbers 1-10. We will have a math
assessment on Tuesday of next week. In Social Studies we finished up our
unit on the USA. Next week we switch back to Science and begin our unit
on “Growing and Changing”. We will focus on body parts and life stages.
During Jesus time we learned about the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to
Zechariah about the birth of John. We learned that we must have faith and
trust in God. We have also been talking and learning about the real reason
for Christmas which is the celebration of the birth of our Savior. On Monday
we spent time with our Chapel Buddies. The Kindergarteners and their fourth
grade buddies filled out and shared an all about me sheet. We also practiced
our handwriting by making Christmas cards to give to patients in the hospital
during the Christmas season. We sent these awesome cards to the hospital via
Mrs. Lauder, whose Mom is having surgery. If you have a loved one in the
hospital or nursing home and would like us to make cards, please let me know
as soon as possible. The kids love to make them.

Important Things to Remember
Have you checked out the "Miracles Happen” on-line Auction yet? Bidding
begins this Sunday, December 6th. ANYONE can bid on the many great items on-
line. Tell your friends and relatives! This is the ONE fundraiser we do
each year. We need your support. Tickets are now on sale at the School and
Early Childhood offices for the December 13th “Miracles Happen” event at Tin
Hall. Please let me know if you need tickets. I can get them for you if you
are not able to make it to the offices. This promises to be a fun evening!
You won’t want to miss it!

Our Christmas program is Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00pm. The kids have
been working very hard with Mrs. Honeck to make this a night you will not
want to miss. Students need to be dropped off in the classroom between no
later than 6:30. Boys should wear nice slacks and a Christmas colored shirt
(red, green, dark blue, white or black) NO JEANS. Girls should wear a nice
Christmas dress, skirt or nice pants also in Christmas colors. NO JEANS or
SPAGHETTI STRAPS.

Please consider helping with our Kindergarten service project. We
are “Stacking the Stable” Like the Wisemen; we are bringing 3 gifts to aid
the kids at Boys and Girls Country. If you are able, please send cereal,
socks, and new shoes. The biggest need is for kids ages 10-18 therefore the
bigger size shoes and socks are needed (girls’/women’s size 5-10 and
boys’/men’s size 5-12). Thank you for your important contribution.

For the month of December, for our chapel offerings, Salem Lutheran School is
collecting groceries for TEAM (Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministry). The
Kindergarten class has been asked to bring cornbread mix. Salem’s school
wide goal is 100 bags of groceries. If we all pitch in, we can do it!

On Friday, December 18th, Kindergarten will be having a small Christmas
Party. The only thing we are asking kids to bring is 1 wrapped book for a
book exchange. The book should be appropriate for both boys and girls as the
exchange will take place by a random method. This book should cost $5.00 or
less. Dismissal at 1:30 pm on this day and the kids are allowed to wear
Christmas attire to school. We will have a regular lunch- kids can order from
the cafeteria that morning like always or bring a lunch from home.

Don’t forget: We will be going outside in cold weather. Please send a coat
or jacket everyday as needed.

Have a great weekend! Stay warm!
In Christ,
Vicki Fong
