What We Are Doing

November 30-December 4

Bible Study: This week we will begin preparing for the celebration of our Savior, Jesus' birth by looking at what the season of Advent means, and beginning to look at the stories of Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the angel visiting Mary.

Reading: This week we are looking at a story about two sisters whose thoughtful and generous hearts help one another. While reading "Rosa and Blanca" the students will pay attention to the flow of a story (plot) and will also identify the theme, or big idea of the story.

Grammar: The students will continue to look at verbs and how to correctly use them to show present, past and future tense.

Spelling: The list this week focuses on the long "i" sound and the various ways it can be spelled. When followed by two consonants, "i" by itself can make the long "i" sound; "igh" makes the long "i" sound; "y" at the end of a word can make the long "i" sound; and "i" at the end of an open, accented syllable can make the long "i" sound.

Math: The children will be working with 2 digit subtraction that does and does not require regrouping. They will also be tested on this concept.
