As stated in the 6th Grade Langauge Arts Handout Spelling and Vocabulary Pre-
tests will be given on Mondays and the final tests will be given in class on
Fridays!
Remember that if the student scores a 100% on either and/or the Spelling and
Vocabulary test(s) at the beginning of the week they do not have to take the
final test on Friday!
Each student will be given a "hard" copy of the Spelling and Vocabulary words
in class the week before the tests. You may also find them below:
If a student scores a 70% or below on a test in my class they may retake
their test for a better grade. Retaking tests is entirely up to the
students. They may retake their tests at any time during the quarter in
which the test was given. The deadline for retaking any tests in my class is
the week before the end of the quarter. This date will be announced in class
as the end of each quarter approaches.
5th and 6th Grade Book Presentations
Schedule and Grading Rubric
One of the expectations for the 5th and 6th grade Language Arts
classes, as stated in the beginning of the year, was for each student to present a book to the class. This presentation is a large part of your grade.
The students need to read a book on their reading level. The book also must be appropriate to give a book presentation on in class. This also cannot be a book that they have previously read in the past or one that is being read in class. Before reading your desired book you need to bring the book to me to have it approved!
The sky is the limit for these presentations! I want you to be creative on how you present your book to the class. This does not have to be the standard book report that is typed up and read to the class! Some ideas could be:
Ø A commercial on why the other students should read the book for themselves.
Ø Bring a costume that one of the characters may have worn in the book.
Ø Make visual aids and explain them to the class.
Ø Make a movie using actors from a scene in the book, show the finished product to the rest of the class.
Ø Interview a character in the book.
Ø Write several journal entries in a private diary from a character in the book.
These are just a few of the ideas, I will be conferencing with each of you before the date of your presentation to be sure that you are on track! I also have a binder full of more ideas that you may use in class.
