I was born in Reno, Nevada. My dad was a Lutheran school principal/jr. high
teacher for 43 years. My mom was a Lutheran school teacher as well. When I
was two years old my family moved to Denver, Colorado, where I grew up. I
attended Faith Lutheran School there. My dad was the principal there and
also taught the 7th & 8th grades. I then attended Denver Lutheran High
School, where I participated in football, basketball, and track. I went to
college at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. I have been teaching
for a total of 31 years. I began my teaching career at
Our Redeemer Lutheran School in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1979. I taught a
combined 7th & 8th grade classroom my first year. The second year I taught a
combined 3rd & 4th grade classroom. I moved to Tomball in 1981, where I
began teaching at Salem. Our school was actually known as Tomball Lutheran
School at the time, and was located on the campus of Zion Lutheran Church in
Tomball. I just finished my 29th year of teaching at Salem, all of them in
third grade. I love interacting with third graders. Third grade is a
critical time in a child's development. They are entering a phase in their
development in which they are striving to function more independently from
their parents. But they are still very moldable and impressionable. I enjoy
the challenges and the rewards that go along with working with students at
that stage of life. My wife, Betsy, is an administrative assistant and works
at Salem's Early Childhood Program. We have two daughters.
Laura and her husband Bucky, Laura is now a teacher at Salem as well. Sarah
graduated in May of '10 with a degree in Nursing. She is now pursuing a
careerin that field. I have been richly blessed in so many ways. One of my
greatest blessings is the opportunity to serve in ministry here at Salem. I
look forward to working with you and your children.
I was born and raised in The Woodlands, Texas. I always loved school
growing up and had a hard time leaving on the last day of every year! I
still have a hard time on the last day of school! In high school, I began
attending Living Word Lutheran Church and decided to become a member of the
Lutheran church. I graduated from The Woodlands High School and then
attended Concordia University in Austin, Texas. In addition to many college
activities, I was an after school care giver for 1st through 5th graders at
Redeemer Lutheran School in Austin for 3 1/2 years. My college summers were
always eventful learning experiences. I spent one summer in Prescott,
Arizona as a camp counselor. I also traveled to France as an au pair and to
Germany as an exchange student. In the spring of 2005, I was a student
teacher with Mrs. Smithers and Mrs. Miller in 4th grade here at Salem. For
my first year of teaching, I was at Immanuel Lutheran School in Giddings,
Texas. I had 22 second graders and I also taught the K-2 choir as well as
leading a young adult Bible study. This is my fifth year teaching third
grade at Salem. My husband, Chris, teaches 6-8th grade Math classes at
Salem. In March of 2008, we were blessed with a beautiful daughter named
Addison. She is the joy of my life. I am excited and ready for this new
school year!
