Each week a different student
will prepare a poster that spotlights
a famous scientist. The poster will
include a drawing or photo of the
scientist as well as phrases and
illustrations that depict what
important contributions that
person made in the field of science.
The posters will be displayed in the
hall.

Each Monday a different pair
of students will work together
for the week to complete a science
experiment that follows the
scientific method. They will present
their data and conclusions to the
class that Friday. While some materials
for the experiment may need to be
brought from home, the work will be
done during school hours.

Students will study chess in fifth grade.
Chess requires inductive and
deductive reasoning, problem
solving, recall, analysis, judgment,
decision-making, self-confidence, and
organizational habits.  A chess tournament
with medals, brackets, and four champions
will complete the year in chess instruction.

write a paragraph explaining the
reason or purpose of the speech,
and create a life-size poster of the
presenter. Abraham Lincoln,
Martin Luther King, Jr., and
Patrick Henry are some of the
famous speakers our students use.

The pictures are judged by
a committee from the Houston
Rodeo and are given ribbons
for first, second, or third place.
Those chosen as Best of Show or
Gold Medal Winner are taken to be
displayed at the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo which is in March.
