Caldecott Reading Program

Join the Smith Caldecott Reading Program

Who can join?  All students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade

When is the program?  October - February

What do you have to do?  Enjoy reading Caldecott Award or Honor books and draw pictures that remind you of the stories using the picture frames available in the library.

Does my picture have to be neat and colorful?  Yes!  Take your time and do your personal best.  All of your frineds and teachers will get to see your artwork hanging on the Caldecott Wall of Fame in the library.

What is my reading goal?  If you read 5 or more different Caldecott books and draw 5 different pictures before the end of Feburary, you will be awarded a special certificate at Celebrate Smith in the spring.

Dear Parents,
The Caldecott Medal is given each year to an illustrator for his/her excellent artwork in a children's book.  For a complete list of Caldecott winnders and honro books since 1938, please check out the following website:

You may have to copy/paste the web address into your browser.
When you get there, search for Caldecott awards since 1938 and you will find a list of all the awesome books receiving the award.  One of my favorites was The Little House by Virginia Burton!!!
