Hello, I am Susan Albright and I am thrilled to be teaching at Spicewood
Elementary. This will be my ninth year in the district, where I have
taught both fifth and fourth grades, and have been a TAG teacher. I feel
especially honored to work with our fifth grade students and I look forward
to the opportunity to teach and to learn from my pupils. I cannot think of a
better campus and group of students and parents to work for. Please let me
know how I may best serve you all.
My greatest desire is to create an environment in the classroom where
students feel free to express their knowledge and understanding of content
in a variety of ways. I hope to engage my students' passion for learning by
teaching creatively and to all learning styles, while making instruction fun
and challenging.
In Math, students must approach problem-solving from many angles (pun
intended), representing mathematical ideas with objects and drawings, as
well as with numbers. It is critical that students understand number
concepts both concretely, as well as in the abstract. In addition to
learning the traditional algorithm, students will explore the use of a
variety of problem-solving strategies, and will be encouraged to create many
of their own. I hope to assist students in sharpening their reasoning
skills, using logic, and thinking "outside the box" in order to accomplish
their goals.
Language Arts consists of word study (Latin and Greek root words); daily
vocabulary, writing, and literature study groups. Students will
have opportunities to respond to literature in numerous ways, both
independently and within group settings. Students will participate in a
writing workshop environment where they will write about teacher-directed
and self-selected topics for a variety of purposes. Correct grammar,
spelling, and usage will be emphasized. I look forward to engaging your
students in lots of fun activities that bring language to life!
