2011-2012 ART CLUB Info.
***Fall semester is full, but we still have a few more openings for the Spring
Club. Get your application in soon!!***
Dear 4th Grade Student,
Welcome back! We hope you all had a fantastic summer and that you are as
excited as we are about this school year. There is an awesome opportunity
being offered to fourth grade students, and we wanted to let you know about
it. This is the 5th year for Spicewood to have an Art Club! It is an
after-school event that will meet every Thursday from 2:45-4:00 in art room
111. We will do a lot of the fun things that can’t be done during the school
day due to regulations, time constraints, money, or the sheer volume of
students that we teach. It promises to be a great chance to experience a
whole variety of less conventional art media in a less formal setting!
The Art Club will be sponsored by Mrs. Duvall, the full time art teacher, and
Mrs. Deb, the half-time art teacher. We are really excited about the
opportunity to make more art with you!
Because we want this to be a quality program, club membership will be limited
to 20 students each semester, so be sure and get your permission slip filled
out and turned in by September 26. There will be a Fall Art Club that runs
through mid-December,and then a Spring Art Club that meets until mid-March.
Attached, you will find the essential agreements for the Art Club. All club
members must read and agree to these before being accepted. We hope you will
consider being a part of this great adventure! See you soon!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Duvall and Mrs. Deb

Purpose of the Program
The Art Club is an after-school organization offered to 4th grade students.
There are two primary purposes of this program:
1. Increased opportunity to experiment with more complex art media and
materials that are difficult to use during school hours and in a
traditional classroom setting.
2. To encourage students to continue their study of art in their own personal
lives outside of the classroom.
3. To allow students the opportunity to work collaboratively to create
artwork for the benefit and enjoyment of the community.
Membership information, requirements, and club agreements
A. Because of the anticipated number of students wanting to participate, the
Art Club will be a semester-long program. Membership will be limited to
20 students per semester. We will, however, be flexible (within reason)
with this number depending on how many sign up.
B. Students will be asked to turn in a piece of art work that was produced
independently (outside of the regular art class), as well as a paragraph
telling why they would like to join Art Club.
C. Students and their parents/guardians should understand that the Art Club
is a privilege, which may be revoked at any time during the semester for
any of the following reasons:
1. Student exhibits poor behavior choices during club meetings.
2. Student regularly exhibits poor behavior choices during school hours.
3. Student is not picked up on time. The club sponsors cannot leave until
the last student is picked up, therefore a student’s membership will be
forfeited if he/she cannot be picked up on time.
D. Club Dues – Club members will pay $20 to help defray the costs of
supplies. These dues will not be refunded if a student’s membership is
forfeited due to one of the reasons listed above. If a student cannot
afford the cost, they may make a request for funding to Mrs. June.
Checks should be made out to Spicewood Elementary. Please turn in the
dues along with the completed permission slip, independently created
artwork, and paragraph explaining why you’d like to join.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in Art club!
Mrs. Duvall and Mrs. Deb
