Dear Parents,
Thanks to everyone who donated time, stamps, and proofs of purchase for the Rally for Recess contest! Thanks also to everyone who donated jeans for the clothing drive. We're continuing to collect jeans until Friday, 2/3. We appreciate your generous contributions!
Next week we're beginning a moon observation assignment. Each student will have an assigned day. A letter will come home in the Friday folder explaining the homework along with the observation schedule. There is also a copy on the "class handouts" page on my website.
Students have an opportunity to participate in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program and Mrs. Reeb will have information about it on the Spicewood E-folder on Friday. A student reading log will also come home on Friday. The students can count the minutes they spend reading each evening for our class homework reading log. On the form it says that reading for homework doesn't count, but we are counting it! We can't count any assigned reading, such as textbooks or specific novels/books, but since the students select their own reading material for our homework log, it does count. Hope this isn't too confusing. The due date is Feb. 27th. If you have any questions, let Mrs. Reeb or me know. For some students the incentive of earning a free Six Flags ticket may be just the thing. If you are not interested, no worries - participation is completely optional!
Students have been enjoying our Junior Achievement classes on Fridays. Mrs. Kelly Smith, a Spicewood parent, is our volunteer and she's doing a great job! The students are learning about jobs, business, and government. We'll have Junior Achievement for the next three Fridays.
We will have a valentine exchange at our party on Tues., 2/14. I'll send home a class list so you can make sure to include everyone. The students will need a decorated shoe box or tissue box. The boxes should be decorated at home and brought to school that morning.
I wanted to let you know that I will not be here this Friday, 2/3 or Monday, 2/6 as I am going out of town to celebrate my sister's 50th birthday! My sub will be Ginger Mooney, and I know the children will be in very loving, capable hands.
One last thing - we are in desperate need of glue sticks again - any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, as always, for your support at home. I hope you have a great weekend!
Fondly,
Elise Harris
