April 23-27:

In Language Arts, students are finishing up their own version of
their "Chocolate Fever" stories. Each student must make sure they have a
clear beginning, middle, and end to their story. They need to include
details, correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Each student is
then typing their story on the computer. Students are also working on other
stories.

In math, we are working on word problems and subtraction.

We are continuing our PYP Unit of Inquiry which is titled, "How We Express
Ourselves." In this unit of study, we are learning that individuals
express their creativity and emotions in different ways. We are focusing
on three basic things - ways people express themselves, sharing our feelings
through expression, and using creativity to express ourselves. We have been
listening to music and writing about what the music makes us feel and think
about. We have also been turning "Squiggles" into something special. Each
student gets some kind of mark made on their paper by me, and they turn the
squiggle into somehing and write about it. We are also listening to poetry
and some students have written their own poems. We are discovering that
poems can be serious as well as humorous and it is one way that people
express themselves.

We read a book and have created a classroom mural that goes along with the
story. We are excited for you to see it when you come to our classroom. It
is very creative and expressive.
