February 6 - February 10:
In math, we are learning about coins and their value. We will play various
money games, practice counting money, work word problems about money, etc. We
are also learning different strategies for adding numbers. We are practicing
adding doubles as well as putting the largest of two numbers in your head and
counting on to find the sum. We continue to practice identifying numbers on
the 100 chart and identifying and writing numbers when given clues such as:
2 tens and 3 ones = 23, 100+0+5=105.
In Language Arts students will be listening to many stories about
relationships and making inferences from the pictures in the books as well as
from what is being read. We will be talking about lessons we can learn from
each story. We will continue listening to fables and recording information
about each one. We are also learning the parts of a friendly letter. We
listened to a story called, "Enemy Pie," and wrote our own recipe
for "Friendship Pie."
In our PYP unit of inquiry called, "Who We Are," students will learn that
through creating and maintaining friendships, we learn about human
relationships. They will listen to many stories
about friendship and relationships that people have and will talk about self-
esteem and how friends can help our self esteem and how we can help them. We
will talk about how people have their own qualities, gifts, and talents, and
about appreciating people for these things.
