Announcements

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to our IB third grade classroom! I am so glad to have you and your
child in my class. Please look forward to an exciting curriculum in third.
School starts promptly every day by 7:45. At this time, we will have
announcements and get down to work.

This week we are still working on multiplication and division. Our math
benchmark test was recorded as a grade. If at any time you would like to see
it, please let me know and we can look at it together.

We are now using another cursive writing component in third grade.
Hopefully, you have seen it come home. Each week we have four pages to
complete and take home.

In language arts, we will be starting our new UOI "How We Express
Ourselves". We copied down the central idea and lines of inquiry.
Our TEKS addressing folktales, legends, and tall tales. These stories are
the strands that blend perfectly with this UOI. We discussed how the West
was settled and that people became larger than life figures for their super
human efforts. Also, landmark formations were attributed to their efforts.
These tall tales were passed along with exaggerations such as Pecos Bill
making the Grand Canyon!!

I would like to thank our volunteers for their tireless efforts when filling
the Friday Folders or reading to a classroom of children!! Thank you so very
much.

Please continue to let your child work on Tenmarks.com This has been a
favorite website for all the kids! Recently, I have previewed various
websites and none of these seem to have the rigor that is necessary for the
Math STAAR. Most of the websites are simply for review of facts and we need
multi-layered problem solving. If your child is doing Sunshine Math, then
this is very close to the rigor that is necessary for the STAAR.
