GREEN TEAM Spring 2012
Odds and Ends:
· Wear comfortable clothes appropriate for gardening. You can change your clothes, but comfy school clothes should be okay.
· You’ll probably be hungry and thirsty, so bring a snack and a water bottle!
· We can always use gardening supplies, particularly tools. We are in great need of shovels, hoes, and rakes. Please remember, that we will not accept any donations that are chemicals. We try very hard to keep our garden organic for safety and ecological reasons! We also accept healthy plant too!
· If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Bell!
Time/Dates:
These are the spring semester dates only. We will meet on Tuesdays from right after school until 3:45. Your parents MUST either notify the YMCA (we will allow time for them to check in and we will walk them back to the YMCA) or come and pick you up on time! Late pick-ups are not acceptable, and can lead to loss of GREEN TEAM memberships. Please respect our time, come right after school, and be ready to leave at 3:45.

Do you have a green thumb? Are you eco-friendly? Do you like to get dirty? Then the GREEN TEAM may be for you!
What is the GREEN TEAM, anyway?
The GREEN TEAM is a service-centered afternoon club for eco-minded fourth and fifth graders. It will also be a hands-on way to discover nature, serve our community, and make the world a better place. We’ll have fun too! This year, Green Team will be focusing on gardening and beautifying the atrium instead of recycling. Mrs. Powers will instead be sponsoring a fifth grade recycling club during fifth grade recess. Be on the look-out for that note if you’re interested!
When and where is it?
The GREEN TEAM will meet most every other Tuesday in room 509 (Ms. Bell’s room) right after school. We will meet from 2:45-3:45. Our first meeting will be on 10/4/2011. If you are selected we expect you to attend and participate for the whole school year.
Who can join?
Any fourth and fifth grader at Spicewood may apply, but we are limiting the number of members to about 30. The fourth graders who participated last year have been invited to return this year, so that does limit our number of new volunteers too. We wish everyone could join, but those who are not selected may join the waiting list in case a spot opens up. You should be independent, willing to work hard physically, and able to stay on task without whining. If you struggle with working with many different kinds of plants because of allergies, this may not be the best club for you. Remember, you may get dirty, wet, or otherwise grimy. If you are interested, you should read the next section to see how and when to apply!
Why I think this is the club for me! How can I join? Does it cost anything?
If you are interested, bring Ms. Bell the following slip. That letter will tell you about fees, supplies, a detailed schedule, and expectations. By the way, The GREEN TEAM is sponsored by Ms. Bell.
