Public Service Announcement (PSA) April, May

Students will form teams and create a comic book for a PSA. Students will write a script, create a story board, use costumes and props for photos (flip cameras), and finally use Comic Life to produce a comic book in the school computer lab.

Field Day: DJ Booth and Songfest - April

Students will work in groups to prepare for field day

  • Select / gather songs and lyrics for play list
  • Create / post rules in classrooms; assign songs to grade levels

  • Host, presenters
  • Script writers

  • Spotters
  • computer tech for videos and music
  • Judges / critique sheets / certificates

Project: The St. Thomas High School Middle School Speech Tournament March 25,26

All 8th graders will participate by choosing events of their choice.

Project: The Extemporaneous Speech

Students will read and study extemporaneous speaking from Extemporaneous Speaking / Mastering Competitive Individual Events , Ch. 3, pp. 35 - 60

After completing this chapter students should be able to:

  • define extemporaneous speaking
  • realize the benefits of extemp speaking
  • know where to find information for extemp speeches
  • collect appropriate data
  • prepare an extemp file
  • know and use methods of organizing an extemp
  • use effective techniques of extemp speaking
  • answer an extemp question

Students have 5 homework assignments (5 sets) of extemp articles /magazines due on a certain day of the week. Four sets are to be clip files (5 articles in each set) and one set is to be 3 magazines. If we do not have class on a due date, then the students may turn in the work early or the day after the missed due date.

The following students (by initials) have extemp homework files due on the following days of the week:

Mondays: E.G. / M.D. / I.I. / N.V.

Tuesdays: K.S. / P.U. / V.M. / M.R.

Wednesdays: B.B. / J.O. / C.P. / D.T.

Thursdays: P.H. / M.C. / A.K. / E.P.

Fridays: J.B. / L.L. / A.F. / M.T.
