JESSE TREE SYMBOL ASSIGNED: __________________________________________________
PURPOSE: For the next few weeks we will continue to study the important people, places and things
of the Old Testament. You will hear the stories and how they fit into God’s plan for the Chosen
People. You will learn about the Jesse Tree and its significance in our season of Advent, as we await
the coming of the ‘Flower of Jesse’, Jesus. Now it is your turn to bring your own creation to the class
as we make our own Jesse Tree ornaments. Read and complete the directions below. Bring your
ornament to class by Monday, November 22nd. A test grade will be given for your project.
DIRECTIONS:
1. You are to reproduce the symbol of your Jesse Tree selection and attach it to the cardboard leaf
that will be provided.
2. You may use any materials that you feel are appropriate for your symbol: fabric, ribbon, pipe
cleaners, wood pieces, felt, beads, macaroni, 3-D paint, needlework, glitter, paper-maché, sequins,
etc. Be creative! You must use more than pen/pencil and paper.
3. You will be graded on effort, color, the amount of thought and time you appeared to have put into
your project, neatness, following directions.
4. Place your name, room number and Jesse Tree title on the back of the leaf.
5. Be familiar with your selection, the symbol and why it is so, as we will be discussing all of them in
class during the next month.
6. You may turn in your project any day between:
Monday, November 15 and Monday, November 22. DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINE.
7. Late credit will be based on the following grades:
- 1 day late - highest possible score = 75
- 2 or more days late - highest possible score = 50
