8th Grade IPC Class Description

The 8th grade curriculum is basically an integrated physics and chemistry course
with an Earth Science emphasis. Students will have frequent opportunities to
do labs and projects. Some of the larger class projects that are usually
included in the 8th grade studies are the creation and launch of hot air
balloons, design and construction of “Rube Goldberg” projects, construction
and launch of model rockets, and numerous other construction and design
projects where students will be given a challenge and asked to find a solution
for it.

In addition, accelerated students will be required to complete a science fair
project. Students in regular classes who did an acceptable individual project
last year will have an option to complete a science fair project or to do a
research project on a scientist. Details onscience fair and the scientist
project will be forthcoming. Students entering science fair will be expected
to select a project by September 15. Any student may elect to do a science
fair project if they wish and students will receive extra credit if they do a
science fair project.

To keep parents informed of their child’s progress throughout the year, they
will be rebquired to bring home EVERY test and EVERY QUIZ to be signed .
They will also correct them ( if the grade was lower than an "A") and place
them in a folder. When the midterm exams come up (before Christmas), the
folder will be their most important study tool for it so they will have more
than one reason to place all the items in it that I ask for. I am always
here. I work in the EDP program again this year after school but I can always
find the time to help one of my students.

Grading Procedures and percentages:

	Homework & classwork	20%
	Quizzes & labs	35%
Tests (and some projects that count as tests)	40%
	Class Participation	5%
