Newsletter with Homework

Week of February 13 - 17, 2012
Kindergarten Parent Newsletter # 24
Dear Parents,

This week we are reading the story, Abuela.
The genre for this story is about fantasy.
Question of the week: What kind of adventures can you have in the city?
Our “Amazing Words” are: abuela, adventure, flock, city, airport, harbor
Please use these words in sentences with your children as we will be doing
the same. This week’s lessons are online at Pearson Reading Street, Unit 4
week 6.

This week the children’s comprehension skill is setting, where and when the
story is happening. When reading to your child for BOOK IT!, please use this
time to review this in the stories. All students are to read or be read to
for at least 30 minutes every night.

The students will continue working on forming telling sentences. All students
must be using an upper case letter to begin their sentences and an ending
mark. Please continue to practice writing sentences at home using
our “popcorn words.” The students should be able to use the words I and me in
sentences.

We will continue recognizing groups of words that begin with the same spoken
initial sound. We will be reviewing the letter “Ee” this week.
We will review last week’s “popcorn words”: go, here, from

How Can Parents Help At Home?
This week we are learning the sound /e/ as in the word “elephant.” Please
have your child practice this letter and sound. Ask him or her to tell you
the names of things that start with the /e/ sound.
Words to Read:

here	go	from	have
one	well	tell	leg
two	too	with	see
you	my	to	for
three	four	they	an

Write _ell on a paper. Have your child add a letter to make as many rhyming
words as he or she can. Continue with _ed and _en.

Please continue using pearsonsucess.com.
Students that are using the Pearson online site are able to read fluently
know the comprehension skill, letter sounds and are learning our grammar
skills easily.
