Course Objective: Students are expected to master the basic concepts of High School Math Models. Students are also expected to apply concepts learned in real world situations. Success on the TAKS test is a common goal!
Expectations of Students:
1) Be prompt and be prepared to learn.
2) Stay on task during the entire class period.
3) Participate actively in class.
4) Be respectful of yourself and others. Always give your best effort.
Homework: Homework is an important part of this class. It is mandatory that you do your assignments if you are to succeed. When having difficulty with an assignment, it is your responsibility to seek help prior to coming to class. I will be in the classroom every morning by 8:15 AM unless I have a meeting. If homework is late then the student can make up the homework for a maximum grade of a 70%. The homework will not be accepted after the test has been given or the Wednesday of the last week of the marking term (to facilitate grades being submitted in a timely manner.)
Tests: There will be a minimum of two tests grades each six week period. The classroom will be absolutely quiet during test time. Talking and cheating will result in the test being taken away from the student. No retest will be given for such an offense, and a grade of zero will be given for the test. It is your responsibility to come to me and set up a makeup of a missed test or quiz. You will receive a zero if you do not make it up before the cutoff date.
Materials: You are required to bring your own supplies to class. You will need your workbook (ALG 1), notebook, paper, pencils, and erasers in order to take notes, work practice problems and take exams.
Tutorials: I am available for tutorials every morning before school (8:15AM) except for Fridays. Other times are available by appointment only.
Grading: Test and Projects 30%
Quizzes and Journal 30%
Assignments 40%
