Announcements

The following students have been approved so far to go on the field trip this Friday. Students 
with a $$$ sign by their name must pay their dues of $15 before being allowed to go.  We will 
meet in front of the school at 7:45 and busses will depart at 9:00. We will return at 
approximately 7:00 PM.  Checks are being deposited this week and are non-refundable, even if you 
decide not to go.   Chaperones, please arrive at 7:30 for a debriefing and please let me know if 
you are unable to go, as I have many eager parents wanting to go if we have room.

T-Shirts are IN!  Drop by B223 to pick them up only BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL! Please do not come 
while I am teaching class. Also, you only get a t-shirt if you paid dues!  Last time to turn in 
permission slips for the Field Trip is THIS FRIDAY!   Everyone who has signed up so far will be 
going unless you did not pass one of your Academy classes. We will be running grade checks this 
week and the final roster for the field trip will be ready next week.

SCIENCE ACADEMY MEETING IS TOMORROW!  MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH, FROM 4:30-5:30 IN THE LECTURE HALL. 

Please bring permission slips and money if you want to go on the field trip to Houston.  
Unfortunately, T-Shirts are not yet ready, but should be available for pickup sometime this 
week. 

Guest Speaker! - Two Engineers from UT Austin will be sharing their experiences with you. This 
will be very valuable for those in the Science Academy that wish to pursue any field of 
Engineering. Hope you can make it!

Is anyone going to sign up for the ALS walk?  Many at the meeting said they would but only 2 are 
signed up so far. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for this walk.

WALK TO DEFEAT ALS! – STONY POINT HAS A TEAM!
ALS, or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," and is a 
progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. 
While there is not a cure or treatment today that halts or reverses ALS, there are drugs that 
slow the progression of the disease.
Help your Science and Medicine Academy Team raise money for this great cause.
WHO: ANYONE! Even friends and family members can participate.

Important Information for you to know
•	ACADEMY DUES!!!!   
Dues are $15 every year.  Mrs. K will be ordering T-Shirts on Friday of this week.  This will be 
the last possible time to turn in dues if you would like to receive  a T-Shirt. You may pay dues 
after this day, but you will not receive a T-Shirt.  If you do not pay dues, you will be put on 
the obligation list unless you tell Mrs. Klenzendorf that you do not wish to be part of the 
acsdemy.  Check Only. Include Drivers License number and your name.

•	FIELD TRIP!
WHO:  	Up to 200 Science and Medicine Academy Students who are current on all dues and passing 
all classes. 
	 Seniors will be given priority as this is their last opportunity to go on a SMA Field 
Trip
               I NEED 15 PARENT CHAPARONES  TO GO AS WELL. THERE IS NO COST FOR THEM, JUST HAVE 
THEM 	CHECK THE BOX ON YOUR PERMISSION SLIP IF THEY ARE INTERESTED. 
WHERE: Houston Museum of Natural Science – Body World 2
WHEN: December 5th (Friday B Day).  Meet at front of school at 7:45. Busses will leave at 8:00.
	 We will return 	at approximately 7pm
HOW: 	To go on this field trip, you need to bring a signed permission slip  and a check for 
$35 to Mrs. Klenzendorf in room B223 of the main campus. or Mrs. 
Moore at the 9th grade center.  Once your are 	cleared to go on the trip, you will receive an 
email confirmation after November 21st, when grades are 	recorded for the  3rd six 
weeks.  If you are not passing, have not paid dues, or we run out spaces on the   
               bus, we will let you know  and your check will be returned.
ALSO: We will be eating lunch at Rice Village before going to the Museum. Bring $5-10 dollars 
for lunch, or 	your own food if you prefer.

If you haven’t done this already, do it tonight. Under the announcement section of the science 
academy website is an area for you to enter your current email address or cell phone number if 
you want texts. Much of the communication throughout the year will be done via email.

•	Pass all academy courses
If you fail a six weeks of a required academy class, you will be put on probationary status. If 
you fail a semester or a year, you will lose academy status as determined by the Faculty Board 
Review

•	Exemplary Behavior
If you receive a referral from any teacher, you will be put on probationary status. If you 
receive more than one referral in one year or are assigned ISS, OSS, or the RROC, you will lose 
academy status as decided by the SMA Faculty Board Review.

•	Before Graduation
By March 01 of this year, SENIORS are required to submit the attached graduation form and an 
official transcript showing that they have completed all the necessary requirements.

Our next meeting will be  this Monday from 4:30-5:30 in the lecture hall of the main campus. We 
will be discussing the upcoming field trip to Body World II in Houston and we will hear from a 
surgical dentist that works in our community. All dues are due on this day. Remember they are 
$15 and it must be a check or money order with a liscence number and the student's name.  

Also, I apologize for not sending this out sooner, but here are the results for the elections at 
the last meeting.

WELCOME BACK ACADEMY MEMBERS!   There will be a meeting next week on Wednesday September 10th 
afterschool in the main campus lecture hall for all acadmey students. We will be going over 
important information for this year as well as holding officer elections for freshman 
representative and public relations officer.  

If you are recieving these emails, please spread the word to any academy students in your other 
classes. You have my permission to make the announcment in any of your science classes. Also 
tell them how to sign up for these reminders.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW OFFICERS!  I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU VERY MUCH. KEEP 
IN MIND THAT OUR MEETINGS WILL BE THURSDAYS AFTERSCHOOL, SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON RUNNING FOR 
AN OFFICE IN ANOTHER ORGANIZATION, MAKE SURE IT WON'T CONFLICT.  ALSO, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO
